Strategic Human Resource Management: Back to the future?
A literature review
This literature review is the first output from an IES project in collaboration with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), and pulls together the evidence on the impact of Strategic Human Resources Management (SHRM) on the performance of employers, their employees and wider society.
Since ideas of SHRM first came over to the UK from the USA in the 1980s, there has been debate as to how effectively the ideas have been implemented and the extent to which they have contributed to organisational effectiveness.
Now more commonly referred to as 'people management strategies', the report highlights a wealth of more recent research studies demonstrating the positive effects of HR management on employee wellbeing as well as organisational performance.
